Registration is now open for our in-person Pro-D Day Feb. 13 in Vancouver that will feature Holocaust and Antisemitism topics and connect teachers with HAEA developed teaching tools.

The all-day session includes lunch with the $26 registration fee.

The program for the day is: 

8:30-10am – Antisemitism: Then and Now (Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre)

This workshop looks at the origins of antisemitism, its evolution to modern times, and examines the contemporary dimensions of antisemitism. Participants leave with the tools and knowledge to foster ally-ship and inclusivity in their professional and personal lives.

10:15-11:45am - Resources to Teach About the Holocaust and Antisemitism  (HAEA President Eyal Daniel)

A session looking at how teachers can used the trio of new lesson plans and slideshows on the Holocaust, the History of Antisemitism, and the soon-to-be released The Jewish People. These materials offer a way for educators to effectively teach these complex, multi-faced topics individually or as a series without preparing their own materials.

11:45 am -12:30 pm - Lunch (provided)

12:30-1:30 pm - Second Generation Holocaust Survivors  (Perry Ehrlich and Marilyn Jordan)

This is the story of David and Rose, sibling Holocaust survivors, as told by their children interspersed with videos of David sharing his story. Their mission is to tell the truth and what can happen when hatred spreads.

1:30-2:30 pm - Questions, discussions

After you register, please e-transfer of $26 to info@haea.ca and include your name and email in the message box of the transfer so we can be sure to credit you for paying.

Also save the date Sunday, March 8, for our walking tour of Jewish Vancouver – we will send registration information for this shortly. Led by the Jewish Museum and Archives of Vancouver the event includes a meal and a new graphic novel about growing up Jewish in the Strathcona neighbourhood.

VHEC offers Pro-D Sessions

Our friends at the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre are offering Pro-D sessions across B.C. based on their new online teaching resource Fragments in Focus: The History of the HolocaustYou can attend half-day or full-day sessions. The full-day session includes an exhibition tour and a new interactive workshop on the influence of propaganda during the Holocaust.

Lunch is provided for both half-day and full-day participants.
